Studio 8H has famous people coming and going through their doors most of the year. We’re constantly hearing about famous hookups that resulted from people meeting on the set of NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
While we’ve seen plenty of relationships form there over the years (including some marriages), one of the most recently notable is Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost. Latter, of course, is the co-host of SNL’s Weekend Update and one of the head writers.
Johansson has seen some troubles in her relationships, so finding love in such an unlikely place with Jost is worth looking at a little closer. They’ve recently become engaged, perhaps making SNL a strange, yet fully defined corridor of love.
Finding love on ‘SNL’
If you already think it was unexpected Johansson and Jost would meet on the set of SNL, you’ll find it all the more interesting that their relationship isn’t new. They met on the show already 13 years ago when she hosted for the first time and Jost was a new writer.
According to many sources, they met backstage and clicked, though stayed merely friends because Johansson was dating actor Josh Hartnett then. Nevertheless, it just shows how many relationships are formed early there, no doubt for one very good reason.
Considering Studio 8H is a bit of a cramped space (due to 30 Rock being an almost 90-year-old building), performers are forced to work closer together. Is this the real reason so many great relationships are formed there because it’s a group of performers working in a more intimate way?
This is something to think about compared to a gigantic movie set or larger studio facility where everyone may be separated into their own trailers or work areas.
Johansson and Jost took 12 years before finally going official
Many people have likely been in the same boat as Johansson and Jost where they meet in a certain place, click, yet ultimately don’t start anything romantic until years after the fact. Other relationships often intervene in people’s lives, sometimes not to either person’s benefit.
In the case of Johansson, all of her relationships seemed to fall on A-list actors who she’d worked with or not. Eventually, she married a French journalist, perhaps realizing relationships in Hollywood frequently go sour. The evidence there is the failed and brief marriage she had to Ryan Reynolds for a couple of years from 2008-2010.
Apparently French journalists aren’t any better since we all know about the bitter divorce between Johansson and Romain Douriac. Amid all the scandal of that, Johansson managed to rebound by linking back up with Jost in 2017, once again on the set of SNL.
No doubt doing this helped ease the pain of divorce and a custody case of the daughter Johansson and Douriac had together.
Now with Johansson and Jost likely to marry, what more will happen at ‘SNL’?
With these two lovebirds now living together and engaged to be married at an indefinite date, we have to wonder what else is brewing in the backstage areas of Saturday Night Live. A new season is almost upon us, and it always has gears turning on who’s dating who, as in one of the cast members linking up with a famous guest host.
We’ve already seen how this works with Pete Davidson as well, outside of moving on to other relationships with no relation to his workplace. When the show is looked back upon someday (if it ever goes off the air), it might be looked at as the central bastion of showbiz romances.
Perhaps the real secret to finding worthwhile relationships is to work in close quarters where interaction is almost mandatory to keep from going stir crazy.
