Manchester United host Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, and the Red Devils will hope to improve on the rusty performances of their last three Premier League outings, as they could not capitalise when they were on the up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a tough task on his hands against Leicester as the Foxes have been in fine form this season so far.

The United manager will require his players to up their performances against Leicester.

Let’s take a look at 3 underperforming Manchester United players who have to step up vs Leicester City:

Manchester United vs Leicester City: 3 Players Ole Needs To Fire

Victor Lindelof

Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof was one of United’s most dependable players last season and perhaps the best defender in the club, but his performances this season have not been as good.

The 25-year-old Swede was at fault for the goal that the Red Devils conceded against Southampton as he was beaten to a header by Saints centre-back Jannik Vestergaard.

In the game against Crystal Palace, a defensive lapse from the two United centre-backs – Lindelof and Harry Maguire – resulted in the first goal of the game, after the former was once again beaten in the air, which allowed Jordan Ayew to go clean through on goal and score.

Lindelof may not have an aerial threat against Jamie Vardy, but the veteran striker’s movement could catch him out.

Ashley Young

Ashley Young will most likely start the game against Leicester at left-back, after Luke Shaw’s injury.

The Foxes will target the 34-year-old full-back, whose form has dipped significantly over the last year or more.

The Manchester United captain could come up against Ayoze Perez or Marc Albrighton, both of whom are tricky players who can beat their defenders for pace and be a threat on goal.

Jesse Lingard

Another Englishman who has had a miserable 2019 is Jesse Lingard, who has come in for criticism, with his performances not being very good.

Lingard, who has been utilised as an attacking midfielder behind the main striker, has not scored since 22 December 2018 in the Premier League, while he hasn’t assisted a goal since January 2019. He was replaced in the team with Juan Mata last time around, but could return to the side to nullify the quick-moving Leicester forwards.

Lingard will need to contribute in attack and not just be a player that fits in a system.
